Tangled Reins News Report
April and May 2010
April
In April, some of the Tangled Reins 4H club members went to a dressage clinic at Sue Chagnon’s barn. Also, the club had two hands-on riding meetings. At the riding meetings we did group riding to get ready for horse camp, and also learned about grooming for shows. When we weren’t riding, we worked on crafts with horseshoes. We made either wind chimes or picture frames out of old horse shoes. Thank you to Rick Banker and Heather Huchro for giving us some of their old used shoes fro these projects.
May
In May, all club members went to Horse Camp. It was a lot of fun! At camp there were minis, ponies, and horses. The weather was great and we learned a lot from our instructors. There was also a Standardbred clinic that was very interesting because Kathy Kokes shows us what a pace is (a pace is when the horse’s legs on the same side move together).
Now, we are all getting ready for the Clinton County Fair!

February and March 2010
February
In February, most club members participated in county presentations. Everyone did a great job. Congrats to everyone!
The Tangled Reins had a club meeting where we planned our March activities. We all wanted to do some hands-on work to get ready for the show season. Our leaders needed to know what we wanted to learn so we could plan our activities. So we decided that we wanted to learn more about grooming, banding and braiding, and showmanship. We also planned to do some horse-shoe crafts and divided up supply lists so we would have the right things to do our projects with.
March
In March the Tangled Reins 4H horse club had two meetings. The weather was finally better so we could be outside! At the first meeting, we learned about getting ready for the show ring and showmanship. The second meeting we got to have group riding and horseshoe crafts. We rode our horses even though it started to snow a lot! We couldn’t do all our crafts because of the snow causing problems with spray-painting, so we will have to do more at another meeting.
Two of our members participated in regional horse bowl and hippology competition. Congratulations to Abigail and Holly for doing well and moving on to state competitions later in the year.

December 2009
At our December meeting we worked on three different projects. We made cowboy boot birdhouses, fabric ornaments, and Christmas trees our of old catalogues. We also brought in food for the JCEO food shelf.
Thank you to Sample Lumber for giving us the wood we needed for the birdhouse project.
Cheese from the county fundraiser was distributed to members. Congrats to ALL members for participating in this important fundraiser.
Tangled Reins members are getting ready for the county horse bowl and hippology competition and we filled out registration papers. Good luck to all at horse bowl!

November 2009
The Tangled Reins have had a busy November!
We had a meeting in November where we built ornamental birdhouses out of small tree stumps. Each member decorated 1 or 2 birdhouses.
Some of our club members went to the Clinton County 4H banquet. Tangled Reins got 2 awards - the news reporter award and the participation award. Many members were recognized for their various years of service. There was special recognition for Erin Sorrell who finished her 4H career, and for Abigail Bosley, who received the junior high point horse award.
Most of us went to Youth Equiday at Miner Institute. We learned about Morgan horse conformation with the help of a horse named Ducky.
Of course, we all sold lots and lots of cheese as part of the county fundraiser. As a club, we sold just over $1,900 worth of cheese, with all members participating.
In December we will be collecting food items for JCEO food shelf, and making projects
